FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
PRESIDENT’S PIECE
I am writing this between visits to Sydney, having recently returned from
the Union for Progressive Judaism conference in mid-November, and just
before I leave to represent Tasmania at the Executive Council of Australian
Jewry – I consider it a privilege and honour to represent this community at
both events.
Summer is now well and truly upon us (well, it will be by the time you read
this!) and we can look forward to relaxed times with family and friends.*
Also, at this time of the year, we look forward to a few weeks of “R&R” from
the hustle and bustle of busy lives in (hopefully) fine, sunny weather –
without too much heat and humidity!
Everybody had a fine time at our Chanukah party on Sunday 12th
December when we heard Rob Schneider (CEO of the JNF) tell of the
work being done in Israel.
This year has been one of consolidation and building on friendships – new
and old. Old friendships should never be taken for granted, and like new
ones, should be nurtured.
We look forward to welcoming visitors to Hobart – please do not hesitate to

As you will see from the flyer inserted in this issue, we are to have three
Israeli films screened at the State Cinema, North Hobart. The three films
formed part of a larger “Film Festival” screened in mainland cities and have
been brought to Hobart by the Cultural Section of the Embassy of Israel.
Come and enjoy these films at the “best cinema in Australia”!
