Annual General Meeting Report
The Annual General Meeting of the Hobart Hebrew Congregation was held on
Sunday 2 September 2007.
19 members attended the meeting.
The following office bearers were elected.
President: Daniel Albert
Vice President: David Clark
Secretary: Debbie Garrick
Treasurer: Stephen Graetzer
Board member: Michal Golebowicz
Board member: Susan Steenbergen
Board member: Patsy Zadik
We welcome Patsy Zadik as a new board member and hope she finds her
involvement to be a rewarding experience.
The congregation extends a thank you to Tom Schlesinger, outgoing Board
member, for the contribution he has made over the past twelve months.
Notes from the Board between July 2007 – October 2007
These are some of the issues that have been discussed by the Board.
The first draft of plans has been drawn up for the construction of a new toilet block at the
shul.
As a result of the decision made by members at the AGM held in September 2007, the
money invested in two mortgage funds is being withdrawn and moved into a Commonwealth
fixed interest fund.
A letter was sent to the Hobart Cemetery Trust asking what will happen to the Jewish
section once the Trust is privatized. The Trust forwarded the letter onto Treasury who has
written to say that they will have to do further research on who owns the land. They would
like to be sent copies of any documentation that we have that would assist this process.
They also stated they would work with us to document any current understanding that exists
between the HHC and the Trust before the sale.
It is considered a matter of urgency to have the Torahs repaired before the next High
Holydays as they are in a bad condition. David Clark will tag the Torahs for repair for
identification and will take photos of any problems he finds. The photos will be sent to
Melbourne for assessment and quotes will be obtained for the repairs.
Hebrew for the Children of the Community
Are there any children out there who would like to learn some Hebrew? The monthly sessions involve
games, songs and learning the Hebrew alphabet. If interested, please ring Michal on 0428 373515, or
