This Shabbat morning service led by the congregation’s new Progressive Consulting Rabbi, Allison Conyer, on her first visit to Hobart will include the unusual and joyful highlight of a baby-naming ceremony.
Abigail Schneider was born in August last year and is the youngest member of the shul. She’s the sister of Evan and daughter of Lisa Eckstein and Jeff Schneider. Family members from as far afield as California and Maryland as well as Sydney will be joining us for the ceremony.
Abigail’s parents Lisa and Jeff are marking the occasion by hosting a vegetarian kiddush to be held after the service. Everyone in shul is invited to stay for the kiddush, and to wish the family a personal mazel-tov.
During her stay in Hobart, Rabbi Allison will also conduct an Erev Shabbat service that will be followed by a communal vegetarian Shabbat meal served in the shul.
Rabbi Allison was appointed as Hobart Hebrew Congregation’s Progressive Consulting Rabbi in the middle of last year, replacing Rabbi Jonathan Keren-Black, who had served in the role since 2010. More information about her appointment is available here.
The length of this service may vary according to circumstances.
Please that that there is no Orthodox service in the shul this Shabbat.
