Hobart Hebrew Congregation is delighted that two visiting rabbis from overseas have offered to lead a special child-friendly Simchat Torah service in our shul this evening, starting at 5:30pm.
Everyone with a young family, and anyone at all who’s young at heart or wants to celebrate this festive holiday is invited to come along to dance and sing with the Torah.
You’ll also be able to welcome rabbis JoEllen Duckor from Wellington in New Zealand and Kinneret Shiryon from Modi’in in Israel (Rabbi Shiryon has the distinction of being the first woman to serve as a rabbi in Israel). The two spiritual leaders had organised a holiday in Tasmania and kindly approached the congregation to volunteer their services for Simchat Torah.
Please note that in the Progressive calendar, Simchat Torah is observed one day earlier than is the custom for Orthodox communities.
The length of this service may vary according to circumstances.
