In this Tuesday talk, Iraqi-born Robert Qassrani will examine Judaism, Islam and Christianity and compare the patriarchs and texts of each religion, as well as how they view the Deity.
Robert’s upbringing at a time when Iraq was a melting-pot of different religious traditions has given him a unique perspective on the subject matter of this talk. He was educated in Aramaic, Arabic and English, and attended Islamic religious classes.
He is currently preparing modern English and Arabic translations of the ancient scriptural texts that he believes will be more faithful to their original meaning than previous translations.
Together with his wife Theadora, he has also established a company that seeks to develop relationships between Australia’s Islamic, Jewish, and Christian communities in business and other areas, as a way of promoting tolerance between them.
Synagogues have traditionally been a place of learning as well as worship. The occasional Tuesday Talk series aims to fulfill this educational role at our shul. It includes presentations on a wide range of serious and not-so-serious subjects of interest to members and friends.
Admission is free. Please note that opinions expressed by presenters of Tuesday Talks are their own, and are not endorsed by the congregation.
