In addition to running services, the congregation also offers a range of activities catering to the cultural and social interests of the community.
For instance, the popular Tuesday Talks series involves members and occasionally invited outsiders leading a discussion that’s usually about an aspect of Jewish history, religion, or culture. The talks are held in the evening at the synagogue, sometimes on days other than Tuesday!
Food is always a drawcard to Jewish audiences, and a shared Shabbat meal after the scheduled Friday evening Progressive service on the second Shabbat of each month is evidence of this.
The congregation also organises a Hannukah picnic and Purim party every year where everyone in the community is invited to bring a plate and share in the relaxed atmosphere. Both events are held outdoors in Hobart parks that offer shelter in case of inclement weather.
Other events that take place from time to time include film nights, commemorations of significant dates, and concerts in the shul by Jewish performers.
We maintain an events calendar that displays all our scheduled activities.
