Overseas rabbis to join us for Simchat Torah

Posted: 30 August 2018

Two visiting rabbis from overseas will be leading a special child-friendly Progressive Simchat Torah service in the synagogue this year.

Rabbi Kinneret Shiryon

Rabbi Kinneret Shiryon

Rabbis Jo-Ellen Duckor from Wellington in New Zealand and Kinneret Shiryon from Modi’in in Israel had organised a holiday in Tasmania over the period including Simchat Torah, and were kind enough to approach the congregation and offer their services. We had no hesitation in accepting!

Rabbi Shiryon has the distinction of being the first woman to serve as a rabbi in Israel.

You don’t have to be part of a young family to attend—everyone who’d like to celebrate the yomtov is welcome. More information about the service, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm on 30 September, is available here.
