Biography
Walford arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1807 after first being transported to Norfolk Island. He owned land in New Norfolk and Sandy Bay and worked as a baker and licensee of an inn. In May 1828, Walford successfully petitioned the Lieutenant Governor Arthur for the establishment of a Jewish burial ground on Harrington Street. Walford died in September 1828 and was the first buried there. At the site is now public housing, named Walford Terraces.
