The statements in the jewish press seem to be completely distorted.

Mr. H. Jacob explained the full Board the history of the engagement of Mr. Rubens and the background of the refusal of Mr. Link of the Board's offer.  He stated:

Seidel were present, it was unanimously  decided to engage Mr .Rubens as leader and Teacher to the Hobart Hebrew Congregation for a trial period of 12 months at a Salary of £8.-..-. p.w. Mr. Rubens to take up his position on Eve of Yom Kippur of this year.
He furthermore told the Board that a letter was sent to the Congregational Committee informing them of the fact that as no other offer was forthcoming the Congregation did accept Rubens offer.  He was engaged subject to conducting the service on traditional lines.
No answer so far has been received from the Congregational Committee as to the promised subsidy.
Mr. Hayes pointed out that he cannot act as Secretary any longer on account of his own work and that typing cannot be carried out from his office any more.
