About

Thank you for your interest in the Hobart Synagogue archives.

The records are a combination of our own files that have been digitised by the Tasmanian Archives & Heritage office, newspaper articles retrieved in the amazing National Library of Australia's Trove application, and various bits and pieces found on and offline!

Special thanks are given to the many volunteers who transcribed handwriting from our historic meeting minutes.

To learn more about the collection, there is a video of a presentation given to the Australian Jewish Genealogical Society.

Jeff Schneider, proud Hobart Hebrew Congregation member, created this application, utilising his experience in web development, library science and interest in history.

Like what you see? Jeff would love to help other non-profits share digitised collections. Contact Jeff to discuss.

Please note, the records in this collection are generally limited to the synagogue. For example, you may have a descendant that you know had five children. However, the collection may only show two records. This is because the synagogue has two birth records. A possible explanation for this scenario is your descendant may have moved somewhere else when they had the three other children.
