As a heritage-listed historic building, the Hobart synagogue is expensive to maintain and update.
The congregation takes its role as custodian of the shul with the utmost seriousness, but the small number of Jews in Tasmania (and therefore members) serves to constrain the funds available to us. We have been fortunate to benefit from two bequests, but these can only be drawn on for highly limited purposes.
As a result, we are forced to approach spending proposals with great caution and lack the resources to offer some of the common services found in other congregations.
Donations are our major source of operational income.
You can support us straight away by making an online gift through PayPal here. You don’t need to already have a PayPal account to do this. And if you live overseas, you’ll likely find that PayPal is the most economical way for you to donate.
If you prefer to send a cheque in the post (drawn on an Australian bank) or donate by bank transfer, just follow the instructions on this printable form.
We regret that donations to the congregation are not tax-deductible.
If you have any queries about making a donation, don’t hesitate to email us.
You can also make a lasting difference by leaving a gift to the congregation in your will. More information about making a bequest is available here.
Your help in the form of either a donation or a bequest will be greatly appreciated.
