Who can join?
Any Tasmanian resident who is either halachically Jewish or has been converted to Judaism through a Beth Din constituted by a recognised rabbinical authority (Orthodox, Masorti, or Progressive) is eligible to apply. In certain circumstances, special exceptions may apply. Please contact our membership officer for more information.
Applications for membership are considered by the board of the congregation, usually at its first monthly meeting after being received.
Upon approval, new members are sent a welcome letter and shortly afterwards a membership fee notice. The level of fees is decided at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the congregation, normally held in August or early September.
Currently, we are employing a “voluntary dues” model, which essentially lets members decide how much to pay for their membership. There is a minimum $5.00 payment, and also a suggested “sustaining level” contribution. There are frequently asked questions about the voluntary dues model.
